  • Skype for Business is free to all Texas State faculty, staff, and students and will accommodate face-to-face instructional teaching needs (e.g. - office hours, group meetings).

Account Creation

Zoom Pro accounts are only available to faculty teaching a scheduled Texas State Online or Hybrid course for the current semester and must be requested by the instructor of record.

  • Zoom Pro accounts are created at the start of each semester term. You will be notified via email when your Zoom Pro account is activated.
  • All Zoom Pro accounts are transitioned to a Basic account (40-minute session limit) after the end of each semester. See the Zoom Retention Policy for more information.

Records Retention and FERPA Policies

Records Retention

In order to comply with Texas State University records retention policy, it is recommended to keep all classroom recordings made in Zoom for 2 years.

These records fall within the category CUR230 – Course Records, and SAD200 - Student Records, Academic Department - and currently have a retention period of AC+2 years, where AC=end of the semester (4 weeks after last class day) in which the course was taught. Your recorded meetings will save to your computer, and can be uploaded to Texas State's video content management system, Mediaflo.


It is our opinion that, in order to be in compliance with FERPA, classroom recordings that contain identifiable student information (NetIDs, text chat, video chat, voice, names or images) not be reused for any other class or purpose at any time.
